positive outcomes through sport
At SUNEE (Sport Universities North East England), we believe that being involved and participating in sport and physical activity can bring about many positives.
By working together the five North East Universities (Durham, Newcastle, Northumbria, Sunderland and Teesside) knew they could, through sport, provide opportunities for staff, students and their communities. They realised that what added value they could bring by working together in partnership.
With funding and involvement with agencies from the communities around the five universities, SUNEE aims to, through sport:
- Work with hard to reach groups
- Increase volunteering opportunities
- Integrate into coaching programmes
- Introduce healthy campus initiatives
- Develop high performance talent camps
- Increase participation in sport
The initial social inclusion and community projects, have been funded through HEFCE, The Football Foundation, The Northern Rock Foundation and Sport England.
